Do you want to have your say in how websites function?  Maybe you have great feedback for website owners to help make their sites better. Then why not share your knowledge directly?  You can!  You can become a website tester and help improve those websites.  Read our evaluation of Ferpection, a website testing company.

Website testing company:

Ferpection
www.ferpection.com

Ferpection website testing was established in 2014 and they have their headquarters in Paris, France.  They provide a platform for real-world users to give feedback on digital products: websites, mobile apps, etc.

You don’t need to live in Europe to be a tester.  They have website testers around the world.  And you don’t have to speak French either.  Many of their tests are for English products.

Better Business Bureau (BBB):

There is no listing for Ferpection with the Better Business Bureau.  But that’s logical as the Better Business Bureau is focused mostly on companies within the USA and Canada.

Cost to you:

Registration: free
Software: N/A

Pay range:

There is a range of payout with Ferpection and it all depends on the test itself.  Website testing that requires more effort will generally pay more.  On average, the pay is around €10.00 per mission.  They call each test a mission.

It is a French company and so they pay in Euros.  With the current rate of exchange, this pays a bit more than the industry average of $10.00 USD.  But you are at the mercy of the foreign exchange rate for payment.

Payment method:

Ferpection pays only through PayPal.  You are paid in Euros and PayPal performs the currency conversion based on their rates at the time of conversion.  To ensure you can receive payment:

  1. When you register, ensure the email you use for registration is the same email you use for PayPal.
  2. If you registered with a different email, then you need to add that email to your PayPal account.

Payment frequency:

Ferpection has regularly scheduled payouts.  They pay on the last Friday of each month

There is no need to request a payout.  When you have reached the minimum of €20.00 in your account, then you’ll be paid on the next regularly scheduled pay date.

We have not yet met the minimum payout so we’re unable to confirm payment right now.

Report submission:

Ferpection requires a bit more information than some of the other website testing companies.

They do not have recording software so your screen is not recorded.  And neither is your voice.  To confirm your feedback points you must take screenshots and upload those to their site.

Your missions contain questions or tasks for you to perform.  You provide your comments for each one and back that up with your screenshot proof.  This often takes much longer than recording your screen and voicing your comments.

Website usability:

The Ferpection website testing site is generally pretty easy to navigate.

When you’re logged in to your account the home page displays any available missions by default.

You can also access your profile which has your personal information plus your mission history.  It also lists your devices so you can ensure you’re eligible for as many missions as possible.

And there is a fairly light help section as well.

Social media:

Ferpection is available on Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn.

Testing Category:

Ferpection focuses mostly on usability and there are a number of areas in which you might give feedback.

You can comment on the design of the site – images, colours, etc.

You might give feedback on the site speed, especially if you find it slow to load.

In addition, you can evaluate the layout and whether it’s user-friendly.

You might even comment on the navigation of the site.

There are many aspects that will help site owners and designers to improve.

Test availability:

We have not had much luck with the availability of test missions on Ferpection.  As with many website testing sites, there just aren’t enough tests to go around.

To increase your chances of getting missions, you should focus on your profile.  Ensure you’ve entered all the information you can to help highlight your fit for upcoming tests.  Of course, you are still competing with a lot of other testers worldwide.

One of the other challenges with this site is test report approval.  Once you’ve completed a test mission, a Ferpection community manager must evaluate it and approve it.

You cannot perform any other tests until the last one has been approved.  And this can take anywhere from five days to an entire week.

We’ve seen a few tests we would have liked to complete but couldn’t because we were awaiting previous approval.  That’s rather frustrating.

Tester support:

Ferpection does have a small help section available.  This appears when you’re logged in to the site.  Unfortunately, the section is rather light.

In addition, very few of the articles are related to issues you might encounter while you’re in the middle of a test mission.

We also could not find any support email or phone number.  You’re pretty much on your own!

How does it work?

  1. Go to their website, www.ferpection.com, and in the top right corner, click “Become a tester”
  2. Enter the requested information for registration
  3. Complete your profile, including as much information as possible so you’re eligible for more tests
  4. Complete your trial test.  This serves dual purposes:
    1. Exposes you to a test mission to get comfortable with the process
    2. Demonstrates your effectiveness as a tester

One of the wonderful features with Ferpection is that you’re even paid for the evaluation or trial test.  But, of course, you still must meet the minimum account balance before you can receive that payment.

Recommendation:

We have only completed a few tests with Ferpection thus far but here’s our assessment:

  1. Test availability – like most of the website testing sites, they don’t have a lot of tests available
  2. Reporting – we find the test reports take a while to complete.  They don’t use recording software so you have to type out all of your comments, plus add separate screenshots.
  3. Pay range – the pay is slightly above industry standard for the type of testing.  However, without recording software, the reports do take longer to complete.
  4. Payment – we’re not thrilled with the rather high minimum balance required to get paid.  But we like that you don’t have to request payment once you’ve reached that threshold.
