If you’ve ever been frustrated trying to navigate a website, then this might appeal to you. Register as a tester with UserCrowd and give feedback on website design. You can comment on the site navigation or the interface. You might be asked to judge the colours used in the design. Or even let them know what other features you would like to see. But how does this work? We take the guesswork out of it. Read our evaluation of the website testing company UserCrowd to see if this side gig might work for you.
Website testing company:
UserCrowd
www.usercrowd.com
UserCrowd was founded in 2008 and their headquarters is in Melbourne, Australia. They provide a platform for design surveys that let real users comment on website designs. You don’t have to live in Australia to join UserCrowd. They have a strong testing base in many countries around the world to ensure a diverse testing pool.
There is a different site dedicated to the clients, UsabilityHub. In 2018, they separated the client site (UsabilityHub) from the tester site (UserCrowd). So if you hear about testing with UsabilityHub, then it’s really the same organisation.
Better Business Bureau (BBB):
There is no information for this website testing company on the Better Business Bureau. It is not registered, it has no file, and there are no reviews or complaints. So our evaluation of UserCrowd for website testing might be more useful for you.
Cost to you:
Registration: free
Software: N/A
Pay range:
UserCrowd pays very little. The average rate per test is between $.10 USD and $.50 USD. You’re reading that correctly – you’re paid less than one dollar.
Their model is to pay according to the number of questions you need to answer in a survey. For each question you answer, you receive one credit which is $.10. And there are many surveys with only one question. But the surveys are also very quick, less than one minute to complete.
Payment method:
UserCrowd only pays through PayPal and they pay only in USD currency. To ensure you can receive payment:
- When you register, ensure the email you use for registration is the same email you use for PayPal.
- If you registered with a different email, then you need to add that email to your PayPal account.
Payment frequency:
UserCrowd does not have regularly scheduled pay dates. You need to request a payout.
When you request a payout, they review your request, and indicate payment is typically made within 30 days. But you can’t request a payout until you reach a minimum of $10.00 in your account.
We have not yet reached that minimum so we can’t confirm the payout yet. But we’re close. So once we receive a payout from this website testing company, we’ll update this post.
Report submission:
There is no separate report required with UserCrowd website testing. Once you’ve completed the survey questions, you’re done. They’re very fast to complete.
Website usability:
The UserCrowd website is barebones but in a good way.
The main dashboard displays your current balance, the number of tests you’ve completed, your user rating, and currently available tests. The first three of those sections also each have a button to display more information. Very streamlined.
It’s easy to see your details at a glance. Plus, if there are tests available then you just click on the test and complete it straight away.
Social media:
UserCrowd has a presence on Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest. But under the UsabilityHub name.
Testing Category:
UserCrowd is all about website design. You provide feedback about the site design in one of the following ways:
- Click test – your input is used for click analysis, assessing the route or path you choose when navigating the site
- Impression test – you’re given a short amount of time to see the site and then provide your first impression
- Survey test – you’re asked a number of questions to answer
- Preference test – you’re shown more than one version of a site or page and you select which one you prefer
- Navigation test – you perform specific tasks to help the client understand how easy it is to navigate their site
With UserCrowd website testing, you provide the evaluation for other websites.

Test availability:
Unfortunately, there aren’t that many tests available with UserCrowd. This is a common complaint of many testers using the site.
The best way to get as many tests as you can is to be logged in to the site. Then as soon as you see a test available, you can complete it quickly.
As with many of these types of sites, you’re competing with a lot of other testers. The tests themselves usually have some criteria defined that determine which testers receive them. But that’s still a large pool of testers. So, if you see a test available, complete it as soon as possible.
Your user rating will also affect how frequently you see tests available. The UserCrowd reviewers assess the answers you provide in surveys. If your answers are low quality then they adjust your user rating. So, you need to do a good job on every test you perform.
Availability of tests is probably one of the biggest challenges we see when we review website testing companies. UserCrowd is just one of many that don’t offer a large number of tests.
Tester support:
UserCrowd does not provide telephone support. But they do have a very small FAQ section on their site. There’s also an email contact available.
Thus far, we’ve never had to use the email contact. We think it’s unlikely you would receive a speedy response via the email. You probably just want to do your best on each test provided “as is.”
What do you need?
If you want to perform testing with UserCrowd there are only a few things you need:
- Internet – you need to be connected to receive and perform a test
- Computer – as long as you have some sort of computer, you can complete tests with UserCrowd. The tests are performed from the website so there’s no special software required.
How does it work?
- Go to their website, www.usercrowd.com, a short way down the site on the left-hand side, click “Become a tester now”
- Enter the requested information, basic name and email details, and click “Create my account”
- Complete your profile, including your phone number for text confirmation
- As soon as your account has been confirmed (which is almost instantly) you’re ready to complete tests.
NOTE: Register with the same email address you use for PayPal.
There is no evaluation test to perform before you’re confirmed. And they don’t require you to perform any training. You simply register and begin watching for tests to complete.
Unlike other website testing companies, your voice and screen are not recorded either.

Recommendation:
We have completed around 45 tests with UserCrowd and rate it not bad for:
- Test availability – they don’t have a lot of tests available but if you stay logged on the website then you’ll see them quickly
- Tester support – there is a very small FAQ section and you can also contact them by email
- Pay range – the pay is very, very low. But the tests are very, very quick and easy.
