You’re tired of the daily 9-to-5 grind. You want to be your own boss. But you don’t want to start a brick and mortar business. Maybe you could try freelancing through Rat Race Rebellion?!
Freelance company:
Rat Race Rebellion
www.ratracerebellion.com
Rat Race Rebellion was established in 1999. The company is owned by Staffcentrix with Christine Durst as the principal and co-founder. Christine Durst has long been considered, “America’s Ultimate Work at Home Expert.”
We’ve identified Rat Race Rebellion as a freelancing company. But really, they are a consolidator or an aggregator, providing lists of jobs available.
You’ll find that 99% of the jobs listed are available only in the USA. If you are legally eligible to work in the USA, then you’re set! If you are somewhere else in the world, then you may not find this site as useful.

Type of work:
Almost all of the jobs listed on Rat Race Rebellion are jobs that you can work exclusively from home. In some cases, you work the jobs from home but there might be reasons for you to occasionally visit the home office or a customer site.
There are many different offerings but the majority are in:
There are a lot of other opportunities on the site. You just need the patience to search the options. Plus, the skepticism to research diligently so you avoid a scam!
Customer service or call centre:
These jobs deal directly with customers. You handle customer complaints, service issues, or provide information on products or services.
There are three primary ways you might engage customers:
- Telephone – depending on the company, you might use your cell phone or landline (hard-wired phone). You might also use call centre software. The software routes calls to your phone of choice and this may not even be a physical phone. You might be able to use Skype or Zoom or some other VOIP (voice over internet protocol) software from your computer.
- Email – you use a company email address and work from a queue. This allows you to work flexible shifts without impacting customer support. You also have more time to research issues than on a phone call or a live chat.
- Text or live chat – if you’re not a fan of talking on the phone, this might be a great option for you. You use the software provided, login with the account they give you and work a queue. It works very much like the phone option, just with messaging instead. Keep in mind, you need to be very comfortable with a keyboard for this option.
Teaching or tutoring:
Your first thought might be teaching English as a second language. And that is an option. But there are more and more schools now offering online video classes as well. This can be a great choice if you’re already an accredited teacher. That means you have the degree to prove your skills.
Beyond school teachers and teaching English as a second language, there is also tutoring. Tutoring is big business! Parents are desperate to get their kids into the “right” schools and they’ll pay you to help them along the way. If you have knowledge within a specific field then this might work very well for you. Just be prepared to prove your worth.
Sales or telemarketing:
The other major category is in sales. If you excel in this field then this could be perfect for you! But be careful about the payment structure. You might be paid by the number of calls you make (although that’s unlikely). Or you might be paid by the number of potential customer contact details you get. But, more likely, you’ll only be paid if you actually sell the product or service. And that leaves you at the mercy of that product or service. Choose wisely.
Website usability:
The Rat Race Rebellion freelancing site is HUGE but relatively straight forward to navigate. For jobs, there are three areas to check out:
- Newest Jobs & Gigs – they post a “fresh” list of jobs almost every day
- BIG LIST of Jobs & Gigs – a list of all the companies offering work from home options. It has a search field and you can filter on your interests.
- Customer Service Jobs – specific, screened, jobs for customer service roles
You can also register to receive their daily email updates.
Social media:
Rat Race Rebellion is available on Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest. And their social media communities are pretty active.
Job availability:
They do a great job of hunting down jobs and posting them on their site. You really do have a lot of choices here. We don’t think they’re all high-quality jobs. But you need to assess that yourself. We’re all different so there’s sure to be something on this site that appeals to you.
